As part of the initiative of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, The Prime Minister of India inaugurated the first ever “Indian Institute of Skills” in the city of Kanpur. The Institute was conceptualized by the Prime Minister during his visit to Singapore’s Institute of Technical Education. The institute is the result of the partnership between Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Indian Government and the Institute of Technical Education, Singapore. As per media reports, the Delhi Government has partnered with Singapore to deliver a World Class Skill Centre. It’s already reportedly graduated five batches of students with a 100 per cent placement record. Please find the media report here.

The Indian Government has decided to set up at least one Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in each block of the country to provide skill development training to all. Currently 25,000 blocks in India have no ITI. Please find the media report here.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's skill development vision has led to a discussion in the country whether imparting skills is more important than education. This was mentioned by the Union Minister for Skill Development Rajiv Pratap Rudy while inaugurating various Skill Development courses and Atal Skill Development Center of Swarna Bharat Trust (SBT) at Hyderabad.
