The Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister, Sri Prakash Javadekar has speeded up implementation of key projects including allowing IIITs to grant degrees and freeing up the identified 20 ‘world class universities’ to run their own affairs. Microsoft has been hired as the technical partner for HRD ministry's SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) platform that will launch 2,000 massive open online courses (MOOC) for over thirty million students this year. In September this year, University Grants Commission has revised the list of 22 unrecognised educational institutions that are functioning in various parts of India. The list of unrecognised universities can be found here.

The Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) has announced new regulations for foreign institutions to collaborate with Indian institutions. The official press release of the regulations can be found here and the guidelines of the regulation (English Text from Page No 5) can be found here.

The MHRD has approved a scheme allowing 32 direct-to-home television channels to telecast content prepared by experts for school and university students to be telecasted from the month of September this year. More information on the initiative can be found here.

In a new reform, Indian medical students who study abroad and want to practise or undertake further study in India are now only required to undertake a single entrance medical examination.
