Marking the 2nd Foundation Day of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, launched the Pradhan Mantri YUVA Yojana, MSDE’s flagship scheme on entrepreneurship education and training. The scheme will train 700,000 students in entrepreneurial skills over the next five years. A press release can be found here.

The Industrial Training Institutes located across India have received an exclusive entity which is in line with the plans of modernisation and upgrading of these institutes. The country’s first global skill development centre to train youths for jobs in multiple sectors overseas will be set up In Mumbai. The Chief Minister of the state is willing to get this started by April 2017 but it will be interested to watch if this gets implemented in time. Media reports on this news can be found here.

Two Ministries of the Indian Government including the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and MSDE have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for implementation of the Pravasi Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PKVY). PKVY is a skill development initiative of MEA and MSDE aimed at training and certification of Indian workforce keen on overseas employment in select sectors and job roles, in line with international standards, to facilitate overseas employment opportunities. The scheme will be implemented by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) through its Training Partners in consultation with MEA and MSDE. Famous Indian cricketer, Virat Kohli and Bollywood actor, Sidharth Malhotra has been appointed as the goodwill ambassadors of the Prime Minister Modi’s ‘The Skill India Mission’. Launched by the Indian PM in July 15 last year, Skill India is an initiative by Indian Government to empower the skilled youth of India with the aim to make them more productive and employable at work.
