Students join Indian Premier League
A unique collaboration between La Trobe and Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kings XI Punjab, cemented at the end of last year, means the exclusive internships have just this year become possible.
The students will work across the media, marketing, operations and sponsorship services divisions for the Kings XI Punjab team. The team has attracted a number of Australian cricketing stars including George Bailey, who captains Kings XI, as well as Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Johnson.
The IPL attracted 174 million television viewers last year and has a colossal social media following – including 12 million Facebook fans and 1.8 million twitter followers.
Director of La Trobe Sport, Professor Russell Hoye, said the internships further cemented La Trobe's status as the leading tertiary institution for sports courses and will provide students with invaluable experience far beyond what they could achieve in the classroom.
"These students will have vital hands-on experience working in the industry and that's something we really want to equip all of our students with at La Trobe," Professor Hoye said.
"Our aim at is to foster graduates who are ready to walk directly into their chosen field, knowing they will thrive because they are fully prepared for success. This internship opportunity is just one of many that ensure our students are work-ready."
Student started their internship from end March and were there in Pune till 19th April. After 19th April they moved to Chandigarh and will be working there with KXIP till 19th May. They will stay for an approximate term of eight weeks, depending on finals.
