Initiatives taken by the Ministry of Human Resources Development in the year 2015 January 2016Fri 22nd January 2016

Congratulations to the Ministry of Human Resource Development for the achievements highlighted in its 2015 Year End Review.

The Ministry has accomplished a number of significant outcomes through its Department of School Education & Literacy to enhance learning outcomes at the elementary and secondary level and in special needs education. A number of noteworthy initiatives were also implemented to enhance quality of teacher education, the development of girl child education and integrating ICT in school education.

The Department of Higher Education launched substantial initiatives to enhance research including through the GIAN programme which will attract the best foreign academics to teach at Indian Universities, leading to international research partnerships.The National Institutional Ranking Framework was also launched with a larger objective to improve the ranking of Indian universities in World University Rankings.

Other key initiatives included the development of a web portal, SWAYAM, to offer Massive Open Online Courses; implementation of a Choice Based Credit Framework to enhance choice, flexibility and an interdisciplinary approach to learning; mapping of more than 40,000 colleges under the Know Your College portal; and support for start-ups, research parks and promotion of innovation in partnership with industry.
