GIAN participant from University of Melbourne visits NITFri 18th March 2016

University of Melbourne Chemistry Professor Muthupandian Ashok Kumar was invited to India in February 2016 to lead short course on Sonoprocess Engineering, as part of the Government of India’s prestigious Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) program.

The GIAN Program aims to improve the quality of higher education in India through international collaboration by inviting internationally renowned Academics to deliver short-term courses and programs in Indian Higher Education institutions.

Professor Ashok Kumar was one of 371 international academics invited to participate in the GIAN program in 2015-16. While in India, he delivered an advanced course on Sonoprocess Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Warangal. Sixty students from B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD programs participated in the course, which consisted of 20 lectures exploring the fundamental and applied aspects of ultrasonic processing technology and its applications in fields such as wastewater treatment, food processing and diagnostic and therapeutic medicine. Many participants were inspired by the technology presented by Professor Ashok Kumar and are exploring new research projects within this area.

Professor Ashok Kumar’s visit has resulted in further research collaboration between Australia and India with Chemical Engineering faculty members from the National Institute of Technology Warangal, meeting with Professor Ashok Kumar to discuss the possibility of establishing research collaboration and joint-research projects with academics in the University of Melbourne.
