Australia’s Eminent Researchers Strengthen Links with India

India’s top higher education institutions hosted two of Australia’s eminent researchers in January, under the Australia India Education Council’s Eminent Researcher Lecture program.

Professor James Arvanitakis, Professor in the Humanities and Head of The Academy at the University of Western Sydney, delivered lectures on innovation in higher education teaching and learning, a priority area for both Australia and India to enhance the quality of higher education.

Professor Arvanitakis is a winner of the prestigious Prime Minister's University Teacher of the Year Award (2012), administered by the Australian Office for Learning and Teaching.

He addressed students and academics at Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Delhi, Jamia Millia Islamia, Venkateswara College, Amity University and the National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA). He spoke on the importance of innovative teaching and exemplified some teaching methodologies he practices. A video of his lecture at Delhi University can be viewed here.

He also participated in a workshop at NUEPA, where he spoke to teaching faculty in higher education from across the country on differentiated teaching in various levels of higher education and the use of research in higher education.

Professor Hans Westerbeek, Dean, College of Sport and Exercise Science at Victoria University visited Delhi and Mumbai to participate in a number of high-level forums on sports administration with Indian government, industry and academic representatives, through his participation in Australia Business Week in India (ABWI).

ABWI was an Australian government initiative, led by Australia’s Minister for Trade and Investment, the Hon Mr Andrew Robb AO MP, which brought over 400 Australian business people to India to boost commercial ties in key sectors.

Professor Westerbeek delivered lectures at the International Institute of Sports Management at Jai Hind College and the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies in Mumbai. He spoke to senior academics and students on enhancing capability in sports education, international sport business and sporting success. His lecture at the International Institute of Sports Management (IISM), Jai Hind College, Mumbai can be seen here.
